If you are in between clubs and can’t decide which one to hit there are a few things to consider. As a very general rule of thumb always take the longer club.
So if you can’t decide between a 5 iron and a 6 iron take the 5 iron.
This allows for not quite connecting with the shot as well as the fact that we often under estimate the club we need. You can also swing more easily at the ball if you know you have plenty of club.
Before you decide ……consider where the most trouble is, front or back of the green.
This will determine your final decision in regards to club choice, if there are bunkers at the front of the green take the longer club or if there is a big drop off or trouble at the back err on the shorter side.
